IP Telephony

VoIP

Instead of using the traditional telephone network, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) allows you to make internal phone calls via your own computer network and external calls over the Internet. This provides a significant cost-saving, as calls between individuals who both have VoIP equipment - even international calls - are free of charge. All you pay for is your Internet connection.

If you are a multi-site organisation, or if you have remote workers, VoIP will allow you to make free phone calls between your head office and any of these other locations, using either existing leased line services or Broadband. This also means that staff who travel extensively can run an IP softphone on their laptops,  enabling them to make and receive calls using their office DDI number anywhere in the world, without incurring any hotel phone bills.

SIP

Voice over Internet Protocol works using the still relatively new Internet protocol known as SIP, which is the Internet standard for person-to-person IP communication. SIP is used for setting up communications sessions on the Internet, such as Instant Messaging, video conferencing, IP telephony and white-boarding, as well as calendar and presence management.
